The Ausherman Family Foundation, a private foundation established in 2006, recently announced the addition of a new trustee to their board of trustees, Tammie Workman.
Tammie has served in varied capacities as a career educator – teacher, assistant principal, principal, and most recently, as the Assistant Superintendent of Student Services for Atlanta Public Schools (APS). She has worked in suburban to large urban districts serving diverse populations of students. Tammie’s work in Austin, Texas as a principal of an early Social Emotional Learning school based on the research of CASEL and as a founding member of the Kennedy Center’s Any Given Child steering committee for the City of Austin (a creative classroom initiative) helped guide the systems and supports she implemented for the students, staff, and families in APS. In Atlanta, she developed and implemented the Positive Behavior Support Framework (PBS) as part of the 2015-2020 school district strategic plan. Components to PBS included social emotional learning programming and expanded wrap around supports in the area of mental and physical health, basic needs for families, and robust behavior supports. Additionally, she supervised numerous other enhancements to special education, discipline processes, registration and enrollment, and extended day programming. She firmly believes that robust, targeted and connected systems of support can be a game changer for communities.
Tammie most recently served on The National Institute of Justice Comprehensive School Safety Initiative APS Executive Steering Committee, The Annie E. Casey Changing the Odds education achievement partner network, Connect with Kids Defining US documentary advisory board, and the Southern Education Foundation’s Racial Equity Leadership Network 2018-2019 cohort. She is a supporter of several non-profit organizations within Frederick County, including the Frederick YMCA, Woman to Woman Mentoring, The Women’s Giving Circle of Frederick County, Soles of Love, and The Weinberg Theatre Tivoli Society.
Tammie holds a BA and MA in Education from the University of Kentucky, as well as her Ed Leadership Certification from Northern Arizona University. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her partner and rescue dogs, exploring the abundance of downtown Frederick, and traveling to new places near and far.
The Foundation’s Trustees have been committed to supporting nonprofit organizations in Frederick County advance their charitable outcomes by empowering the passion for change.
