Entering another year of operations, The Salvation Army continues to offer a safe respite for people experiencing homelessness at its Day Center located at Grace United Church of Christ.
The Day Center provides shelter from the elements and safety from scrutiny for those experiencing homelessness. In addition, the Day Center gives clients access to resources including food, clothing vouchers, computers, rest spaces, case management, and healthcare evaluations. Its hours of operation are from 8am-3pm, Monday through Friday, during which time it sees 20-60 people a day.
This program is made possible by collaborative efforts of funders and organizations in the Frederick community. Funders include Ausherman Family Foundation, The Community Foundation of Frederick County, and The Community Foundation’s Mark and Susan Butt Saturday Mornings Fund. Special recognition should be made for the congregation at Grace United Church of Christ who have provided a wonderful home for the program and ample support.
With a General Grant from the Ausherman Family Foundation in the amount of $30,000, the Day Center plans to continue its operations and programing. Moving into the future, it wants to continue to help its clients navigate community services to ensure that they get the assistance that they need, find employment, and feel supported by the community.
