Gateway to the Mountains, Thurmont Mural Complete

The Ausherman Family Foundation is thrilled to announce the completion and unveiling of the Gateway to the Mountains, Thurmont Mural by artist Bob Cohen.  This project springs from the Ausherman Family Foundation’s dedication to support public art across Frederick County, aiming to enrich every community with artistic expression. Together, the Town of Thurmont and the Ausherman Family Foundation engaged Shawn DeWees, the generous owner of this building, and collaborated closely with the Frederick Arts Council, guided by their Public Arts Master Plan to spread art throughout the county.

The location of this mural could not be more ideal. Positioned on a daily route for many—whether students heading to school or residents commuting to work—it is also a focal point visible from the Trolley Trail and a highlight on Main Street.

The Ausherman Family Foundation remains dedicated to elevating the arts throughout Frederick County. This mural welcomes everyone to Thurmont, the “gateway to the mountains,” and stands as a testament to the power of community collaboration in transforming public spaces.
