Ausherman Family Foundation is honored to support Frederick Community College with a $60,000 General Grant for the Building Trades Scholarship. Last year, FCC awarded 61 Frederick Community College students studying the trades with $500 to cover the cost of one Building Trade course per semester. Enrollment in the trades programs significantly increased, especially among younger students.

Scholarships are available for FCC Students enrolled in Building Trades, or non-credit courses in Trades & Vocational Training (Electrical, HVAC or Welding). Eligible applicants can receive an award up to $500.

Frederick Community College recently shared the success stories of two students in their monthly newsletter:

Felix Maqueda and Dawson Nash are FCC students. They are also fiber optic technicians serving in the Army.

This semester, they both started the Electrical Certificate program at FCC, thanks to a Building Trades Scholarship that helps cover tuition and fees for the program, which can be completed in two semesters.

Both Felix (above left) and Dawson (above right) are looking forward to completing the Electrical Certificate program because it will help them in their current roles in the Army and get them moving on the right track for future careers.

“Career-wise, this has been a kick-start because I’d be more hesitant to start school if the financial stability wasn’t there,” Dawson said. “It’s definitely made an impact and helped cover tuition and fees.”

Without financial assistance, completing the program may not have been an attainable goal, Felix said.

The Business Trades Scholarships they received have enabled Dawson and Felix to enter the program with confidence, and they say they are extremely thankful for the assistance from generous Foundation donors, including the Ausherman Family Foundation, Laughlin Family Foundation, and a private donor interested in supporting building trade careers in Frederick County.
